Ok builders, The tournament has officially begun!!
THE RULES: You are only allowed 3 types of objects. You can use as many of these 3 types of objects that you want, but no more than the 3. Different sizes of the same object count as 1 of your objects. So if you use the 3 sizes of metal slicks, then these are all of the objects you are allowed.
Tools, explosives, effects, lights and cameras do not count for your 3 objects, so you can use as many of these as you want. You CAN NOT use them as track. Only for their intended purpose or decoration. Signs however, do count. If you use any sign, it will count as one of your objects.
Length of the track is not important as long as it is interesting and fun. I don't want to see a really long track with just the 3 objects for obstacles though. I want you to use your objects in creative and different ways to make interesting obstacles and decorations.
Skill games are allowed.
JUDGES: Gamescrub QcChopper BlueMageFTW and myself(CrowsBeak)
YOU WILL BE JUDGED AS FOLLOWS: style/creativity-1 to 5 points. playability/obstacle transition-1to 5 points. technical merit (usage of tools/physics)-1 to 5 points overall effort (no floating checkpoints or debris)-1to 5 points and our personal fave-1 point only to keep it fair.
All of the judges will be using this for each track, so the track with the most points wins.
PRIZES: The fine people at Redlynx are throwing in a Hoodie and Flag for the winner, along with the 1600 msp for U.S. citizens or 3 month gold membership for everyone else, that I'm offering.
SUBMISSION: Name your track 3OL-Your GT-and a number (ex. 3OL-CrowsBeak-01) Then send a Friend Request to all four of the judges.(Be sure and send a message stating you are entering a 3OL track) as our Friends List is usually full.
If you are able to make a vid of the track please do so. If not, please contact Jarr3tt88 through XBL stating you need a vid of your 3OL track and he will post one for you.

I think thats everything. If you have any questions feel free to ask. So get to bulidin people and HAVE FUN!!
yeah i remember seein that . It's f***in sick man! That's exactly the kind of thing i'm talkin about. I'd like to use that as an example if it's cool with you
I really like the premise Crow. I'll definitely make my next track along these lines whether or not the tourney takes off. Are you thinking of adding a difficulty range or is it anything goes?
count me in for this. i have a really clever idea for a level.
by the way, i take it checkpoints dont count as objects, and stuff like pistons, wind, etc is in the tools category
Yeah reaper, You can use as many checkpoints, "tools"(hinges, triggers, pistons, force rotation etc etc) Lights, fire, smoke, steam and water, that you like.
There is no size restriction, although I don't want to see just a line of the three objects to make a long ass track with no deco. I want to see the objects used in different combinations, to make interesting obstacles and decorations.
i've finished my track (aside from final testing and stuff), although its a bit short on decorations..... because it uses no objects. just wind, game cameras and checkpoints.
the track is called R3. Wallrider if you want to check it out

Hey Crow. I finished a track that fits the requirements, Agglomerate (Hard). There are a couple of sections that seem a bit nasty, but once you get the rhythm it's pretty straight forward.

The track is AWESOME grimm!! I like it alot. I would have liked to see some more deco, but i do like the theme and usage of the objects alot. The little cave door was a nice touch.

Thanks Crow, it's fun to have some set parameters to work within. I'm pretty sure I'm pushing the item count/memory limit fairly hard, though it's visually deceptive (tons of little pieces [every structure is tied all the way to the ground], water & lights). Rather than go in and build additional, elaborate decoration that I'd have to delete, or could build but not tie in correctly due to the item restrictions, I figured I'd be better served trying to maximize the effects of the things in place while minimizing needless clutter that detracts from the atmosphere.
Having said that, I might go back and try to put a few more things in, but only if it can be done without looking like it was solely for the sake of maxing out the item count.

Yeah I didn't think you were that close to the memory max. If thats the case then I understand, I forgot how short those logs are, and if they're going all the way to the floor, I can see how it would be close to being maxed. It's still an awesome, fun and challeging track!
Ok I'm thinking of altering the rules abit. If you use an object that has a different size I will allow that as the same object. So if you use metal slicks, you can use all three sizes if needed and still use 2 other types of objects.
Nah, I dont like this competition at all.... sucks, not interested.... lol jk crow, you know ill be submitting something! Dont know what yet, but its a great idea. Cant wait to see what I can do... I just dont kno...

and as to the rule changes.... thats a good idea, but then again, if I use a ramp... can I use all 4 ramps? Things like that, you'd have to be pretty specific.

Much of the fun with something like this lies in having to creatively deal with the harshness of the restrictions. Considering that you're already allowing unlimited effects/tools I think the raw, 3-piece limit works just fine. In addition, if you do not use things like planks & metal sticks you're necessarily penalized as there are many pieces that don't scale to fit, but still take up a full piece slot. In the interest of keeping an objective, level playing field the rules should be kept in their original form.
However it ends up I still have another one of these tracks to turn out, but it will be under the original parameters regardless of any changes.

I agree grimm. Only 3 objects period. If you use the three sizes of one object, then those are all of the objects you are allowed.
Since there are a few people interested in the challenge now, I am contacting people willing to judge the tracks. I'm offering 1600 Microsoft points for Americans and 3 month gold membership for everyone else.
I'm going to make an example track just for fun and will update the thread when I have judges and a deadline for the tourny.

Thanks Blue, I'll be sure to free up a few slots. I figured the short track tournament requests were only interested in the short track.
